The modern variant of the beagle was developed in England in the early 1800s by selectively breeding several breeds including the Talbot Hound, The North Country Beagle, the Southern Hound, and possibly the Harrier. Appearance-wise the beagle resembles the Fox Hound the most and is a scent hound developed for hunting the hare and rabbits. Now they are seen more as pets.
