As the name suggests German Shepherd originated from Germany in the late 1800s, the most obedient and loyal among local sheepdogs were bred to create the German Shepherd. They were popular throughout Germany and Europe as a guard dogs for cattle and for herding sheep. They are popular as police dogs in contemporary times.
